Embellished Textiles

Workshops: Embellished Textile Assemblage and Shrink Art

Working in the media of embellished textile assemblage, I teach one day, weekend, and one – two week workshops on methods of hand-worked textile assemblage, including embellishment, embroidery, surface design, shrink art, and non-traditional quilting and appliqué. Workshop themes have included narrative artwork including textile books, sacred objects and icons, shrink artworks, and textile assemblages.

My workshops in the past have been hosted at venues ranging from art centers like the Craft Alliance in St. Louis, MO, and the Society for Contemporary Craft in Pittsburgh, PA to universities like Miami University of Ohio and the University of Kentucky. As a teaching artist, my goal is to create an environment of collaborative and explorative learning. My instructional style of providing structured projects in which student learn specific textile techniques like raw appliqué, non-traditional quilting, embroidery, embellishment, and other methods of surface design allow participants to learn and employ the skills to express their individual vision. My teaching artist instructional style isinformed by my graduate education in studio art and art education, as well as nine years of college-level instruction.
