fall updates!

Just a few updates on the workshops & exhibitions . . .

1st, I’m currently in a Kentucky textile exhibition at the Kentucky Artisan Center in Berea until early spring called “The Ties That Bind” (www.kentuckyartisancenter.ky.gov/).  They did an awesome job hanging my “Seven for a Secret Never Told” – great placement and LOTS OF LIGHT.  I am, admittedly, a bit of a light nazi.

2nd, My piece “Roadside Memorial” was accepted into CraftForms at the Wayne Art Center in PA.  It’s been a few tries to get into this annual & national craft exhibition, but I’ve finally cracked it.  That opens later this year.  Here’s the web page for last year’s exhibition: www.wayneart.org/exhibition/craft-forms-2012

3rd, I got a very pleasant surprise when I opened up the Fall 2012 issue of the Surface Design Journal and saw my piece “Fire in the Belly” featured on page 48.  A goal for 2013 is to pursue more promotional opportunities, so I’ve got a leg up!

4th, the UK Art Museum hosted me in late September to do a “Tree of Life” appliqued and embroidery felt project associated with a day long art educators training event.  Thanks to Sonja Brooks, teacher outreach coordinator, for making that happen.  Here’s a few photos:

5th, Seth Green and I will be having a two person exhibition at the Rowan County Arts Center called “Between Heaven and Earth” through the month of December.  The exhibition will open with a reception on Thursday, December 6 from 5 – 7 p.m., and we will be hosting a workshop called “”(re)Source: Drawing from Your Creative Sources” on Saturday, December 8, 1 – 4 p.m.

6th, the annual MSU Craft Bizarre will be hosted again in the Claypool-Young Art Gallery on Thursday November 29 and Friday November 30, and will set up shop at the Appalachian Holiday Art & Craft Fair on Saturday December 1.  Ann Olson and I will be there too, this time in our “doublewide” – we’ll have much more room this time.

7th (whew), the Southwest School of Art in the BIG state of TX has scheduled me to teach a workshop in mid October 2013, and I’ll also be the guest juror for the San Antonio Fiber Artists annual exhibition at that time as well, and will be giving a public lecture.  Robert Hils, head of the Fiber Program there, was so kind to arrange a weekend trip that I can do many things in a short amount of time, given the travel distance!  So, arrangements for my 40th b-day + 4th anniversary are already planned for the Riverwalk, since the husband will travel with!

David Moore, my amazing web master, has set up an upcoming events section that I hope to soon be using.  There’s tentative plans to teach a “Twisted Threads Tuesdays” at CoffeeTree Books – knitting from basic to advanced, starting in January – so I will try to use section to publicize that.
