About to leave for CraftSummer 2009 @ Miami University of Ohio

Almost off to Miami U of Ohio for CraftSummer 2009!  This is my third time teaching @ CS and it’s been a great time in the past.  There’s a twist on the class (media: textile surface design with stitching, embellishing, and mixed media): the focus will be on narrative art.  I’m very excited to see what the students come up with  – teaching these longer classes is having access to what 20 +/- creative people do with the techniques they learn.

These workshops are always a good kick in the butt to get some projects/techniques in some sort of complete form.  Even though the class isn’t a fabric book class per se (the theme is narration for the students to translate however they see fit – in a single work, sequential and/or serial pieces, 3D work, etc) – I wanted to put together a few samples.  And, also, start working on some painting on cloth and rolled/primed canvas.

Even though I’m “technically” off contract @ MSU, I’ve been in and out of the office prepping for next year’s events, and I’m happy to scream that LYNDA BARRY of author/artist fame is coming to Morehead in April 2010 to teach workshops, give a lecture and book signing, and just generally be awesome in Kentucky.  I have to admit, being able to host events like this clears out any other pissy little stuff I complain about re: the salt mine of a full time job.

On the personal front, Pete and I have switched honeymoon gears from Greece to SPAIN! (thanks, NPR, for that segment re: lack of Euro tourists in Spain this summer due to the global economic meltdown) So I’ve been obsessively going through the web site Way To Stay looking at apartments to rent in Barcelona for a week.  I’m too thrilled for words about this since I love most all things Spanish.  Plus, Mom says I’ll blend, always good!
